Our Mission To provide community members with social and educational services that will enhance their lives and empower them as a community. To apply the principles of the Qur’aan and Sunnah practically within the framework of community service and social change. To provide the infrastructure through which people can collectively focus their energies to identify and implement common goals for the betterment of the community.
Our Vision and Values We strive to enliven the example of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and the early generations of Muslims who “lived Islam” in every aspect of their lives. We believe that Islam provides the perfect roadmap for moral and social advancement and we envision vibrant and healthy environments where Islam’s lessons are embraced and transformed into action on a daily basis. Our work is founded on the principle that sound communities are created out of shared effort and responsibility. Each action by or for the sake of each individual is like a “building block” that reinforces the community. Thus, in the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and sisterhood, we aim to bring Muslims from all backgrounds to work together for the community’s well-being through means that are supported by authentic Islamic teachings – to enjoin good, help those in need, and above all, follow the commandments of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) Our Means
We implement our goals and values through: Collaboration: We co-operate with different mosques and social service organizations on various projects. We focus on tapping local resources and contributing to established local efforts. Education: We strive to spread Islamic knowledge through our activities Facilitation: We bring people closer to the resources they need through financial assistance, social support and other means. Unification: Through our open membership, we recruit volunteers with diverse talents and skills to execute different projects and foster social connections.
We work with the guidance of qualified and renowned scholars. Our projects include: Muslim Care: Defined by Islamic teachings on charity, activities in this project include visiting the sick in local hospitals, helping those in financial need, and providing social support for the elderly. Family Services: This project provides matrimonial services according to Islamic etiquettes, family counseling, and children’s education programs. Youth Services: This project aims to instill Islamic pride among young people through educational and social activities such as basketball and soccer games, tutoring, mentorship and study circles, with a focus on Islamic values. Dawah Outreach: This project works to create awareness about Islam among Muslims and non-Muslims through presentations, workshops, open houses and distribution of educational packets. It also focuses on classes and mentorship networks for new Muslims.
Why Building Blocks: With a growing Muslim community, there is increased need for services rooted in Islamic traditions and ideals. Knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah requires practical application of the lessons learned. Greater strides in social change can be made through the collaborative efforts of many hands and minds, and organized and systematic means.
Quick Facts Building Blocks of Islam is a non-profit organization and was formed in 2005. We have more than 100 members from different cultures, backgrounds and ethnicities. We are currently funded solely through donations and membership dues, as we explore alternative sources of sustainable funding.
